Little known fact: Rosanne Raneri is the reason I am a songwriter. While I listened to, and admired, Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel in high school, Rosanne was a very real inspiration to me; when I was 17, she came and performed at a folk festival we held to raise money for our literary magazine. From the moment she opened her mouth and I heard her beautiful voice, I was inspired, enthralled, and enraptured; she was a very real embodiment of what, and who, I wanted to be – a songwriter and performer. Over the years, I have been an ardent and constant fan of her music as well as her generous soul.
This past weekend, she played a wonderfully intimate show at the Steamer No. 10 Theatre in Albany with another local artist, Bryan Thomas, and I was fortunate enough to attend. At the end of the show, she and Bryan did a beautiful duet of Joni Mitchell’s “Case of You”.
